CRISTOBAL
BIOGRAPHY
Cristóbal León, born in 1984 in Malaga (Spain) is entirely self-taught. His beginnings in painting date back to his 9 years. In the streets of his hometown, near the railway tracks, he tames spray paint. Heavily influenced by the urban culture of the 1980s and 1990s, where hip hop music and graffiti predominated in his neighbourhood, he composed colourful letters, created grotesque characters and developed his artistic vision.
He then joined art schools and workshops where he experimented with watercolor and oil painting. His artistic expression then evolved rapidly, moving from urban art to a much more classical artistic representation.
Thanks to other artists, he then became familiar with the world of outdoor painting, which he described as “one of the best, if not the best, schools of painting that a young artist can access.” Thus, to the rhythm of the fast painting contests during which he won several hundred awards, he sharpens the fluidity of his gesture and refines the movements of his features
His experience of urban art and graffiti is still evident today in the way he paints. Characterized by vivid features and touches of transgressive colors, Cristobal’s spontaneous realism translates a dynamic, spontaneous and very instinctive artistic expression. The works of Cristóbal León, from which a lot of freshness emanates, are a visual gift and a breath of fresh air for the senses.
