BIOGRAPHIE

Debra Frances Bean est née à Londres en 1967, elle vit et travaille entre New York et Londres.


Ses sculptures sont des sacs à main en cristal de synthèses  avec inclusion d’objets populaires tels que des billets d’un dollar, des jouets, du Coca-Cola, du maquillage Chanel, des parfums de créateurs, des montres de poche, des rouges à lèvres, des bagues ou des clés rouillées.


Ils présentent au spectateur une parodie et une critique du concept commercial à travers une visualisation hyperréaliste.


Son travail s’inspire des éléments kitsch de la culture populaire, faisant référence tant au pop art qu’à un modernisme cherchant à incarner nos idéaux. La répétition insistante de ceci dans la forme et le concept, est remplie des notions de produits manufacturés de masse qui contribuent au paysage d’une société de plus en plus encombrée de  »trucs ».

Debra Frances Bean explore des idées centrées sur la consommation et la fabrication en série et explore la relation complexe que nous avons avec des objets matériels comme biens consommables. Notre inclination à consommer est contrariée par la culpabilité et l’anxiété que cela suscite. Les sacs à main de Debra Frances Bean sont des marchandises en elles-mêmes.


Dans la mesure où ces œuvres sont un clin d’oeil au pop art, ils se réfèrent aussi à l’ère numérique, révélant le processus par lequel le contenu de ces sacs à main est acquis par les achats en ligne ou sur les réseaux sociaux.
